Helen Frankenthaler’s Famous Color Field Has Arrived
We continue celebrating our new gallery space in Clayton with the addition of a major Helen Frankenthaler painting entitled Bella Donna.
After cutting her teeth in the abstract expressionist movement of mid-20th century New York, Frankenthaler progressed to find her own voice as one of the most important proponents of the Color Field movement.
Bella Donna is a striking example of Frankenthaler’s unique perspective on the Color Field technique, which utilizes thinned-out paint to allow the viewer to explore the relationship between the color and canvas.
We invite you to experience an artist whose work challenges the traditional relationship between the viewer and the painting.
